McWhorter's Black American

The canonical reference work for the Black American register.

This volume is one of two named editorial monuments published as part of Standard American 250, the inaugural codified standard of the American language, on the Fourth of July, Two Thousand and Twenty-Six.

It enters the lineage of canonical American lexicography after Noah Webster's American Dictionary of the English Language of 1828 and H. L. Mencken's American Language of 1919, taking its place as the third major editorial monument in the tradition.

John McWhorter serves as Editor-in-Chief of the published standard and as named editor of this volume. The work establishes the Black American register with the full architectural depth the standard accords to every American register — a dictionary, a thesaurus, and an editorial chair.
